The ClipTools Audio Converter changes an audio file from one format to another and hands it back ready to play. You can output MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG or FLAC, and it accepts MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, FLAC, OPUS and WMA files up to 500 MB. WAV and FLAC are lossless, while MP3, AAC, OGG and M4A are lossy formats that re-encode the sound. The tool changes the format only - it does not trim the file or ask you to set bitrate targets by hand. There is no watermark, no signup, and no limit on conversions.

Everything runs entirely inside your browser using ffmpeg compiled to WebAssembly (ffmpeg.wasm), so your audio file is never uploaded to any server. The file is decoded and re-encoded locally on your own device, then returned to you as a download in the format you chose. That makes it a fast, private choice for musicians moving FLAC to MP3 for their phone, editors converting MP3 to WAV before editing, and anyone who needs M4A to MP3 for wider compatibility without installing software.

Why use this tool

Your files never leave your device

Your audio is processed entirely on your own device through ffmpeg.wasm and is never uploaded to a server, so private recordings, voice memos, and unreleased tracks stay on your computer.

Lossless or lossy, your choice

Export to WAV or FLAC when you need to preserve quality for editing, or to MP3, AAC, OGG, or M4A when you want a smaller file that is easy to store and share.

Wide format support

Load MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, FLAC, OPUS, or WMA and export to six common formats, so awkward files like M4A or WMA become something every device can play.

No installs, no signup, no limits

Everything runs in your browser with nothing to download and no account to create, and you can convert as many files as you like for free without watermarks.

How to use the Audio Converter

  1. Add your audio file

Drag and drop your audio file onto the upload zone, or click to browse and select an MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, FLAC, OPUS, or WMA file from your device.

  2. Choose the output format

Select MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, or FLAC depending on whether you want a smaller lossy file or a lossless one.

  3. Start the conversion

Click Convert and watch the progress bar as the audio is decoded and re-encoded locally in your browser.

  4. Download your file

When processing finishes, click the download button to save the converted audio file to your device.

  5. Convert another file

Use the Convert another file option to reset the tool and convert a new audio file without reloading the page.

Popular use cases

  • Converting M4A voice memos or songs to MP3 so they play on any device or player
  • Shrinking a large WAV recording to MP3 to save space and share it easily
  • Turning a FLAC music library into MP3 files that fit and play on a phone
  • Converting an MP3 to WAV to get an uncompressed file ready for audio editing

Frequently asked questions

Is this audio converter free?
Yes. It is free with no signup, no watermark, and no conversion limits. You can convert as many audio files as you want between any supported format. The tool is ad-supported, which keeps the conversion itself free of charge.
Does my audio file get uploaded to a server?
No. Your audio file never leaves your device. The conversion runs locally in your browser using ffmpeg compiled to WebAssembly, so the file is decoded and re-encoded in memory on your own computer. Nothing is uploaded, stored, or sent to ClipTools or any third party.
Which audio formats can I convert between?
You can load MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, FLAC, OPUS or WMA files, and export to MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG or FLAC. That covers the common cases such as M4A to MP3 for compatibility, WAV to MP3 to shrink size, FLAC to MP3 for phones, and MP3 to WAV for editing.
What is the maximum file size I can convert?
You can convert audio files up to 500 MB, which is far larger than most songs, recordings, or albums in a single file. Because all processing happens locally, the practical ceiling also depends on your device's available memory, so very large files convert more reliably on a desktop than on a low-memory phone.
Is the conversion lossless?
It depends on the output format you pick. WAV and FLAC are lossless, so they preserve the audio exactly when the source quality allows it. MP3, AAC, OGG and M4A are lossy, so choosing one re-encodes the sound and discards some data to make the file smaller. Converting a lossy file to a lossless one cannot restore quality that was already lost.
How does the audio converter work under the hood?
It runs ffmpeg compiled to WebAssembly (ffmpeg.wasm) directly in your browser. When you pick an output format, ffmpeg decodes your source file and re-encodes the audio into the container and codec you selected, all on your own device. The result is offered as a download with no server processing involved.
Can I change the bitrate or trim the audio here?
No. This tool converts the format only and does not let you set a custom bitrate target or cut the file. It uses sensible default encoding settings for each output format, so the workflow stays simple: choose a format and convert. If you need to trim or compress further, use a dedicated tool for that step.
How long does the conversion take?
Most files convert in a few seconds to under a minute. Speed depends on the file length, the source and target formats, and your device's processor. The first conversion is slightly slower while ffmpeg.wasm loads into the browser, and later conversions in the same session are faster.
